530 Kenyans to Receive 12 Months of SHA Cover

A total of 530 vulnerable residents of Laikipia East Constituency have secured 12 months of health coverage under the Social Health Authority (SHA) Sponsored Programmes.

In a notice dated August 12, SHA stated that the coverage was sponsored by Laikipia East Member of Parliament Mwangi Kiunjuri Festus, the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) Committee and the constituency leadership.

The authority added that the sponsorship has a total premium value of Ksh 3,091,483.

“The Social Health Authority (SHA) wishes to recognize the Member of Parliament, the NG-CDF Committee, and the leadership of Laikipia East Constituency for sponsoring 530 vulnerable constituents into the SHA Sponsored Programmes at a total premium amount of KES 3,091,483,” read part of the notice.

SHA Covers 530 Vulnerable Residents Under Laikipia East Sponsorship 

SHA said each of the 530 beneficiaries will receive 12 months of health coverage under its Sponsored Programmes.

In addition, the authority noted that the beneficiaries will be able to access the full scope of benefits provided under the gazetted SHA tariffs during the coverage period.

“Each beneficiary will receive 12 months of SHA health coverage, enabling them to access the full scope of benefits under the gazetted SHA tariffs.”

It added that the initiative targets vulnerable residents who may face difficulties meeting healthcare costs without financial assistance.

“This support will shield vulnerable households from catastrophic healthcare costs and ensure they can seek quality healthcare without financial hardship,” SHA stated.

Furthermore, SHA recognised Kiunjuri, the NG-CDF Committee and the Laikipia East constituency leadership for sponsoring the beneficiaries.

How to Access the Sponsorship Programme 

Vulnerable households seeking to benefit from the government-funded Social Health Authority (SHA) Sponsorship Programme are identified through a community-based process rather than applying directly for sponsorship as individuals.

Community Health Promoters (CHPs) help identify and map households considered extremely poor or vulnerable within their communities. The households then undergo government vetting before being enrolled in the sponsored programme.

However, households seeking to benefit from the programme are required to have their details registered with SHA.

Those who are not yet registered with SHA can complete the registration process through several channels. 

One can dial *147# on their mobile phones and follow the prompts to register, or complete the process online through the SHA pre-registration portal.

Alternatively, applicants can visit a Huduma Centre or a public health facility and register in person.
