Police recovered 12 stolen cows in Bungoma on Tuesday during a joint operation and arrested two people suspected of cattle rustling.
The operation, led by the National Police Service with support from the National Government Administration Officers, was initiated after livestock owners in Bungoma reported losing 14 cows when they were being grazed in Kaperua Forest.
Police launched an elaborate search across the areas utilizing intel provided by the public.
“Following concerted and proactive efforts, and valuable information obtained from members of the public, we were able to track down and recover twelve of the stolen animals in Kipsigon Forest, Kopsiro Sub-County,” stated NPS.
“The arrested suspects are currently being held at a police station pending further investigations and any necessary subsequent legal proceedings,” confirmed the service.

Recovered Cows to be Returned to Owners After Identification
The recovered cows are being held at a temporary facility and owners are being allowed to identify their livestock before formal hand overtakes place.
Two cows that were reported missing remain unrecovered while the search for them continues.
According to NPS, the success achieved in the operation demonstrates the importance of multi-agency collaboration in the fight against cattle rustling in the region.
“Such collaboration continues to be a strong weapon against criminal elements in society and helps assure safe communities,” said NPS.
