Kenya Met Forecasts Rainfall in Several Areas as July Ends

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has forecast showers and thunderstorms in parts of the western, central and Rift Valley regions as July comes to an end, while most parts of the country are expected to remain dry.

In its weekly forecast for 28th July to 3rd August 2026 released on 27th July, KMD stated: “Most parts of the country are expected to be generally dry. However, some counties including Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo/Marakwet, Nyandarua, Nyeri and Murang’a may receive rainfall.”

The department expects morning rains which may occur in Siaya, Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega, Uasin Gishu and Turkana counties.

It also warned of afternoon showers and thunderstorms which are likely to occur in Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo/Marakwet, Embu, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kericho, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Kisumu, Laikipia, Meru, Migori, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nandi, Narok, Nyamira, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Siaya, Tharaka-Nithi, Trans Nzoia, Turkana, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga and West Pokot counties.

KMD forecast cold and generally cloudy conditions for residents of Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri and Tharaka-Nithi.

Temperature swings will define the week.

Daytime highs above 30°C are expected in Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu and Turkana counties.

Night-time lows will dip below 10°C in Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nakuru, Kajiado and Taita Taveta.

Kenya Met forecast estimates that Lodwar will record a maximum temperature of 36°C and a minimum of 26°C, while Nairobi is expected to record a maximum of 28°C and a minimum of 10°C.

Between July 20 and 26, the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) noted that most parts of the country would remain dry.

“The highest seven-day rainfall total (70.2 mm) was recorded at the rainfall station at Busia Ministry of Water Offices,” the report said.

Mandera recorded the week’s highest temperature at 37.1°C on 24th July 2026, while Nyahururu recorded the lowest at 5.2°C on 22nd July 2026.

KMD directed that use of the forecast should be in conjunction with daily (24-hour) and five-day forecasts and that people “should follow up the updates daily from County Directors of Meteorological Services.”
