Kenya Tourism Federation Breaks Silence After Seven Killed in Lolokwe Helicopter Crash

Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF) has expressed its condolences to the families of seven people who died after a helicopter operated by Lady Lori Helicopters crashed at Lolokwe Mountain in Samburu County on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The helicopter was carrying a Kenyan pilot and six foreign passengers, including five US citizens and Ecuador’s intelligence chief, when it crashed.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 20, KTF said it was deeply saddened by the tragedy and extended its sympathies to the families, friends, and loved ones of those who died.
It also acknowledged those involved in the response and recovery efforts following the crash.

KTF urges public to rely on verified information
KTF said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident were ongoing and urged the public, media and tourism stakeholders to allow the relevant authorities to establish what happened.
The federation called for verified information to guide reporting and public discussions as the investigation continues.
It also reaffirmed the tourism sector’s focus on the safety and wellbeing of visitors, noting that Kenya’s tourism industry is supported by regulatory frameworks, professional operators and both public and private sector stakeholders.
This statement comes as the tourism industry responds to a tragedy involving visitors travelling within the country.

Kenya remains open to visitors
While acknowledging the impact of the accident, KTF said Kenya remains open and continues to welcome visitors from around the world saying it remains committed to working with government agencies, tourism operators and international travel partners to maintain visitor safety and care.
KTF further sought to reassure travelers and tourism stakeholders of the industry’s commitment to maintaining confidence in Kenya as a tourism destination.
“Kenya remains open and welcoming to all our visitors,” the federation said.
The statement ended with a reaffirmation of Kenya’s tourism invitation.
