Safaricom Explains When Customers Can Refresh Their Fuliza Limits
Share
Safaricom has outlined what customers need to know about refreshing their Fuliza limits and the factors that determine how much they can borrow.
The explanation came after a customer raised concerns over his Ksh 0 Fuliza limit in a social media exchange with the telecommunications company.
“Why this surely……am I still your customer…” he wrote.
Safaricom responded by explaining that Fuliza limits are not increased manually when a customer makes a request.
Instead, they are reviewed periodically using several indicators linked to a customer’s financial behavior and use of Safaricom services.

Safaricom Explains When Customers Can Refresh Their Fuliza Limits
Customers can refresh their Fuliza limits once every 30 days through the M-PESA menu.
Safaricom advised users to dial *334#, select Fuliza, then choose Refresh My Limit and wait for feedback.
The monthly refresh does not automatically result in a higher borrowing limit. Safaricom said customer service teams cannot manually change the amount assigned to an individual.
“Fuliza limits are reviewed periodically at the bank’s discretion and cannot be adjusted manually,” the company said.
M-PESA messages sent to the customer also reminded him that the limit could be refreshed once every 30 days.
Anyone whose limit remains unchanged after a refresh has to wait for another review rather than having the amount adjusted immediately.

What Safaricom Considers When Reviewing Fuliza Limits
Credit score, savings habits and loan repayment history are among the factors considered when Safaricom reviews a customer’s Fuliza limit.
The company also looks at repayment behavior on other services, including Okoa, as well as how consistently the customer uses their Safaricom line.
Safaricom said consistent use of a line for at least six months is considered during the assessment.
Regular M-PESA and Safaricom usage can therefore contribute to a customer’s profile, although it does not guarantee an increase in the amount available.
Customers whose limits are changed will receive an SMS notifying them of the update.
Fuliza allows eligible M-PESA users to complete transactions when their available balance is insufficient. Each customer’s borrowing amount is determined through the service’s credit assessment.
For users with low or zero limits, the available option is to keep using Safaricom services, maintain a good repayment record and refresh the limit once every 30 days.
