Kizza Besigye’s Family Mourns Death of 6-Year-Old Grandson

Dr Kizza Besigye’s only grandson, Righteous Ariho Besigye, has died at the age of six while receiving treatment at Mulago Hospital in Uganda.

Ariho’s father, Adam Ampa Besigye, announced his death in a heartbreaking message on Thursday, saying the young boy passed away in the early hours while in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“It’s with profound pain and a heavy heart I’ve never imagined I would ever carry, that I announce the loss of my beloved and only firstborn son, Righteous Ariho (Rai),” Adam said.

Adam described Ariho as the “only grandson” of his father, Dr Kizza Besigye, and remembered him as the greatest gift of his life. He said the boy was born in March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, giving him the opportunity to become a father.

“You fought until the end, my warrior. You now rest peacefully in the arms of the King of Peace, Jesus Christ,” Adam wrote, adding that his son had become his “guardian angel” watching over him from above.

In his final message, Adam told his firstborn son that he would always love him before bidding him farewell.

“Daddy loves you always Rai. Until we meet again, Rai,” he wrote, quoting Psalm 34:18 in his tribute.

Ariho was born in March 2020 and died in September 2026.
