Communications Authority Announces Attachment Opportunities for University Students Across 17 Departments

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has announced student attachment opportunities for ongoing university students seeking practical experience in the country’s ICT regulatory sector between October and December 2026.

In an advertisement, the Authority said the three-month attachment programme is open to students from recognised universities whose courses align with the advertised departments.

CA is the regulator of the ICT industry in Kenya, with responsibilities including telecommunications, cyber security, e-commerce, broadcasting, multimedia and postal and courier services.

It is also responsible for managing the country’s numbering and frequency spectrum resources, administering the Universal Service Fund (USF) and safeguarding the interests of ICT service users.

Attachment Opportunities

The attachment opportunities have been spread across 17 functional areas. Students pursuing Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Public Administration and Management Studies can apply for the Human Resources and Administration department.

Those studying Mass Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Media Studies and Communication Studies are eligible for Corporate Communications.

The Authority has also advertised positions for students pursuing Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Economics and Business Administration in the Finance and Accounts department, as well as Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Logistics and Business Administration students in Supply Chain Management.

Engineering and ICT students have opportunities in Frequency and Spectrum Management, Compliance Enforcement, Monitoring, Inspection and Regional Coordination, Standard and Type Approval, and the Universal Service Fund.

Students who are pursuing Telecommunications, Communications Engineering and Business Law can apply for Postal and Telecom Licensing.

Information Technology

On the other hand, Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering and Cybersecurity students are eligible for both the Information Technology and Cyber Security departments.

Further, the Consumer Protection and Advocacy department is open to students studying Law, Consumer Protection, Public Policy, Sociology, Marketing and Communications.

Those who are pursuing Education, Public Relations, Community Development and Media Studies can apply for Public Education and Awareness.

Students studying Statistics, Economics, Research Methodology, Business Administration and Quality Management can apply for Research, Planning and Quality Management.

Additionally, Competition Management is open to those pursuing Economics, Business Studies, Law, Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs.

The Legal Services department will accommodate students undertaking Legal Studies and Regulatory Affairs.

Requirements

In order to qualify, applicants must be ongoing students in a recognised university, apply for a department that aligns with their field of study, and demonstrate a keen interest in gaining practical experience in a dynamic regulatory environment.

Furthermore, CA said successful applicants will gain hands-on experience in one of Kenya’s leading regulatory institutions, work alongside experienced professionals, and enhance classroom knowledge through real-world exposure.

Applicants are required to submit their applications online, attaching a one-page CV, a copy of their National ID, a cover letter specifying the department of interest, and a letter from their institution confirming current enrolment and support for the attachment.

The deadline for applications is September 18, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.

The Authority further noted that it is an equal opportunity employer and encouraged all qualified Kenyans, including persons living with disabilities and those from marginalised communities, to apply.

CA has also warned that canvassing or failure to attach any of the required documents will lead to automatic disqualification.
