Gachagua’s Party Suspends Candidate Over Kirinyaga Panties Donation Reports

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has suspended its Gichugu MP aspirant, Jacinta Njeri Mbogo, for six months after her public allegations over panties donation controversy involving Kirinyaga Senator James Murang’o.

In a statement dated September 25, 2026, DCP Secretary General Hezron Obaga said the National Executive Committee (NEC) had confirmed the committee’s recommendation to suspend Mbogo for 180 days.

“The National Executive Committee (NEC) has confirmed the recommendation for your suspension for a period of a hundred and eighty (180) days/ 6 months.” The statement said.

It said the disciplinary proceedings followed the public circulation of allegations concerning party activities in Kirinyaga County, including claims about access to rallies and the running of a branch office.

DCP Rejects Allegations Raised by Gichugu Aspirant

According to the suspension notice, the disciplinary committee considered several allegations raised by Mbogo but found that they had not been substantiated.

Committee specifically considered allegations involving payment for access to rallies, preferential treatment, an exclusionary speakers’ list and the alleged takeover of the branch office.

DCP said Mbogo had been given an opportunity to respond during the disciplinary proceedings, but the committee concluded that the allegations were not substantiated.

“The Committee, having accorded you an opportunity to be heard, found that the allegations concerning payment for access to rallies, preferential treatment, an exclusionary speakers’ list and the alleged takeover of the branch office, were not substantiated.”

The party consequently found that her decision to publicly circulate the claims amounted to a breach of Articles 10.1(iii) and 24.2(iii) of the DCP Constitution.

Mbogo Barred From Party Activities Until March 2027

The suspension took effect on September 25, 2026, and will run until March 26, 2027.

During that period, DCP said Mbogo cannot participate in or represent the party at official meetings, rallies, functions or other party activities.

She has also been directed to stop publishing or repeating the allegations that were the subject of the disciplinary proceedings.

“During the suspension period, you shall not participate in or represent the Party at official meetings, rallies, functions or other Party activities.”

The party further directed that future complaints involving party activities, rally participation or branch administration should be handled through its internal mechanisms rather than public platforms.

DCP warned that any subsequent breach of the Party Constitution or repetition of the conduct complained of may attract further disciplinary action under Article 24.4.

Possible sanctions listed in the notice include additional suspension, exclusion from party elections or expulsion. Despite the suspension, Mbogo retains a right of appeal under Articles 24.3(ii) and 31 of the DCP Constitution.
