Shock as Police Recover Over 200 Phones, Laptops and iPads in Major Operation

Police have recovered more than 200 assorted electronic gadgets, including mobile phones, laptops, iPads and computer motherboards, during an operation linked to ongoing investigations.

The recovered items are currently being displayed at Central Police Station, where authorities are expected to provide details on the circumstances surrounding the recovery, the ownership of the gadgets and the progress of the investigation.

This development comes days after Police intensified operations targeting mobile phone theft syndicates in Nairobi, leading to the arrest of four suspects and recovering 26 suspected stolen phones in separate operations across the Central Business District and Shauri Moyo.

Police Recover Stolen Phones in Nairobi CBD

The National Police Service (NPS) said the operations are part of an ongoing crackdown on organized criminal networks involved in phone snatching and trafficking of stolen devices.

In the first operation, officers from Central Police Station, acting on intelligence, raided two premises within the city centre and arrested two suspects found in possession of 11 mobile phones believed to have been stolen.

In addition, in a separate incident, officers from Shauri Moyo Police Station responded to distress calls from a woman who had just been robbed of her mobile phone along Digo Road, where they tracked the suspects to Majengo and recovered the victim’s phone together with 15 other mobile handsets and arrested two suspects.

“Officers from Shauri Moyo Police Station, while on patrol along Digo Road, made a swift response to distress calls from a woman who had just been robbed of her mobile phone,” the NPS said.

Meanwhile, Police urged anyone who recently lost a mobile phone in the Nairobi CBD or Shauri Moyo areas to report to the respective police stations with proof of ownership to assist in identifying the recovered devices.

Thieves Steal From a Shop in Saika

This recovery operation comes days after two armed men raided a women’s chama meeting in Nairobi’s Saika estate and escaped with cash and a mobile phone.

The robbery occurred at about 3 pm on Sunday, July 26, at a salon, where members of the Queen’s Women Chama had gathered for their routine fortnightly meeting.

The footage showed two men walking into the salon and calmly greeting a group of women before one of them pulled out a pistol, cocks it, and ordered the women to surrender their mobile phones.

The second man, who was wearing a helmet, appeared to flee first as the screams intensified.

The clip sparked debate online, with some users saying the incident was unusual for an area they considered relatively secure.

“Saika has been a safe haven for many years and this is disturbing. Action needs to be taken,” one user said.
