IEBC Announces Exact Date Kenyans Will Vote in 2027

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially set Tuesday, August 10, 2027, as the date for Kenya’s next General Election.

In a notice signed by IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon, HSC, the commission said it had published the Notice of the General Election in line with the Constitution, the Elections Act and the Elections (General) Regulations, 2012.

The commission said the General Election will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2027, with the notice also outlining the timelines for the respective elections and election campaign financing.

“The Public is HEREBY notified that pursuant to the powers conferred by Article 88(4) of the Constitution of Kenya, the provisions of the Elections Act, Cap 7 and the Elections (General) Regulations, 2012, the Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission has published the Notice of the General Election scheduled to be held on Tuesday, 10th August, 2027,” the notice states.

IEBC said the timelines are contained in various Kenya Gazette notices published in August 2026.

Election and Campaign Financing Timelines

The notice comes as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election, when Kenyans will head to the ballot to elect leaders at different levels.

According to the notice, the respective election and election campaign financing timelines are contained in several Kenya Gazette notices.

IEBC listed Kenya Gazette Notice Numbers 13497, 13498, 13499, 13500, 13501, 13502 and 13503, published on August 20, 2026.

The commission also cited Gazette Notice Number 13771, published on August 26, 2026. The commission has also made the notices available through its website for members of the public to access.

IEBC Outlines 2027 Election Preparedness

The announcement comes four days after IEBC appeared before the National Assembly Liaison Committee on September 10, 2026, where it presented an update on its preparedness for the 2027 General Election.

Under the leadership of Chairperson Erastus Ethekon, HSC, the commission assured the committee that it is implementing a clearly defined electoral calendar and undertaking critical preparatory activities.

“The Commission is implementing a clearly defined electoral calendar and undertaking critical preparatory activities to ensure that key legal, operational, financial and logistical requirements are addressed within the prescribed timelines,” the commission said.

Key Areas of Preparation

IEBC said its preparations cover several critical areas, including voter registration, electoral boundaries, voter education, candidate registration, procurement and logistics, election technology and training.

Other areas include stakeholder engagement, security coordination and electoral dispute resolution.

The commission said these activities are anchored in its Election Operations Plan, which operationalises the Commission’s Strategic Plan 2024-2029 and provides a structured framework for implementing the electoral cycle programme.

The Chairperson further confirmed that the Commission remains committed to delivering a credible, transparent, inclusive, accessible and efficient electoral process in the 2027 General Election, in accordance with the Constitution and applicable electoral laws.
