Missing Activist Found Injured After Being Dumped Along Thika Road

Activist Collins Otieno has been found along Thka Road after reportedly disappearing while seeking assistance to trace fellow activist Boniface Mulinge Muteti, who had gone missing during protests in Nairobi on September 21, 2026.

The development came a day after Muteti was found alive in the Lukenya area of Machakos on Friday, September 25, following several days during which his whereabouts remained unknown.

In a statement shared on Saturday, September 26, Vocal Africa Chief Executive Officer Hussein Khalid said a good Samaritan boda boda rider found Otieno along Thika Road at around 4:30am and rushed him to hospital.

“Comrade Collins Otieno has been found. He was dumped along Thika road. A good samaritan boda boda guy found him around 4.30am and rushed him to hospital,” Khalid said.

Collins Otieno Rushed to Neema Uhai Hospital

At Neema Uhai Hospital around Kasarani, Otieno is receiving treatment following his discovery along the road.

“Like comrade Muteti, Collins is disoriented, weak and injured. He is presently at Neema Uhai hospital around Kasarani receiving treatment,” Khalid said.

Earlier, Otieno had been among several activists arrested in Nairobi’s Central Business District on September 21 during demonstrations over the continued detention of Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye.

The demonstrations focused on demands for Besigye’s release and calls for an explanation over his transfer from Kenya to Uganda after he reportedly disappeared from Nairobi in November 2024.

Activists Raise Alarm Over Otieno’s Disappearance 

After Muteti disappeared, Otieno reportedly sought help to establish his whereabouts and report the matter.

During that process, Otieno himself reportedly went missing, prompting Khalid and other human rights defenders to raise the alarm.

Meanwhile, reports had not established the circumstances surrounding Otieno’s disappearance or how he ended up along Thika Road before his discovery.

Following Muteti’s discovery on Friday, attention shifted to Otieno as fellow activists and human rights defenders sought information about his whereabouts.

As Otieno continues receiving treatment at Neema Uhai Hospital, further details are expected to clarify what happened between his reported disappearance and his discovery along Thika Road.
