Wetang’ula Bars Ndindi Nyoro From House Business Over Claims NHIF CEO Received ‘Calls From Above’ to Invest in KPC

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has been suspended indefinitely from conducting business in Parliament until he apologises for making unsubstantiated claims that the NHIF CEO received instructions from “above” to invest in KPC.
The decision was made by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula after Nyoro declined to withdraw his remarks and apologise to the House.
Nyoro had alleged that the NHIF chief executive officer received “calls from above” directing the agency to invest in KPC.
The remarks were deemed unsubstantiated, prompting Wetangula to require him to take back his words and apologise.
Order To Apologise
However, Nyoro did not apologise to the House but continued to defend his statement as things continued to get heated in Parliament.
Wetang’ula then directed that Nyoro would not be allowed to participate in the business of the House until he complies with the directive he was given to apologise.

The ruling, however, does not amount to Nyoro being suspended from Parliament as a Member of Parliament.
It simply means the Kiharu MP remains free to enter Parliament and attend proceedings, but he will not be allowed to contribute to debates or undertake House business during the period.
Under Wetangula’s directive, Nyoro will effectively remain an observer in the House until he apologises for the remarks that triggered the disciplinary action.
Disciplinary Action
Additionally, the distinction is important because a suspension from Parliament would ordinarily prevent a lawmaker from attending proceedings for the duration of the suspension.
However, in Nyoro’s case, the Speaker’s directive restricts his participation in House business while allowing him to remain within the precincts of Parliament.
Nyoro has in recent months remained outspoken on matters of public finance and government spending.
He has previously served as chairperson of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee before being removed from the position.

This latest disciplinary action will remain in place until he complies with the Speaker’s demand and apologises.
For now, Nyoro can continue reporting to Parliament, but he will not have the opportunity to address the House, debate motions or participate in other parliamentary business until he tenders the required apology.
