An American national living in Kenya has raised concerns over an alleged credit card fraud incident after dining at Mama Oliech Restaurant in Kilimani, Nairobi.
In a video shared online on September 30, the woman explained that she had visited the restaurant after receiving recommendations to try its food.
She claimed that after leaving the restaurant, she received an alert from her bank notifying her of an attempted transaction worth $374.27, approximately Ksh 48,500, at a Naivas outlet.
According to her, the transaction was declined after her bank flagged the activity as suspicious.

The woman said she returned home after having a meal at the restaurant and later received an alert from Chase Bank while speaking to a friend.
She claimed the alert showed that someone had attempted to use her card at a Naivas supermarket.
According to her, she then checked her online banking account and noticed two additional small transactions that she described as possible attempts to test whether the card details were working.

The woman alleged that the transactions were linked to her visit to Mama Oliech Restaurant, saying she suspected her card information may have been obtained while making payment at the restaurant.
“ Then I logged into my online banking. And when I logged into my online banking, it said this: As you can see, someone tried to handle my card number twice more at the same restaurant for 39 cents. So what they were trying to do was make sure the card number worked before they took the it to Naivas,” the lady said.
However, she did not provide evidence in the video proving that the card details were obtained at the restaurant or identifying the person who allegedly attempted to use them.
Naivas Manager Allegedly Shares Details of Attempted Purchase
The woman said her friend later visited the Naivas outlet and spoke to the store manager about the attempted transaction.
According to her account, the manager said two women had visited the supermarket and initially purchased a small item before returning to shop for more goods.
“So my friend went to Naivas and talked to the manager there. The manager has He said, yes.Indeed, there were two women who were there. They bought a piece of gum, and that explains the 21-cent charge on my Chase Bank account,” the lady said.
She claimed the women later attempted to pay for groceries using the card, but the transaction was declined.
The woman said the manager told her that the two women then left the groceries at the supermarket and said they were buying the items for another person.

She said the two women allegedly told the manager they would contact the customer after the card was declined and return with another payment method.
“And he said, when the card declined, they said, “Oh, we’re here to buy for someone. So we’ll leave this here and go call the customer and tell the customer that their card is declining. That way they can give us a card,”
The American national further said the supermarket manager asked them to return the following morning to review CCTV footage showing the women who had allegedly attempted to use the card.
She said she planned to return to the Naivas outlet to view the CCTV footage and identify the people captured in the recordings. She added that she would share an update on social media after viewing the footage.
However, her claims about the restaurant employee’s alleged involvement remain unverified.
There was no independent confirmation before publication that the people captured on CCTV were employees of Mama Oliech Restaurant or that they obtained the woman’s card details at the restaurant.
