Governor Kahiga Clears Air on Deputy’s Vehicle Allegedly Used to Ferry Women at Night

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has clarified remarks about a county vehicle linked to his deputy, David Kinaniri, saying he was referring to the deputy governor’s driver and not Kinaniri himself.

Kahiga said he had been misquoted while explaining how he personally monitors activities around the county as part of the performance contracting system introduced by his administration.

Kahiga Explains County Vehicle Remarks

Kahiga said he often drives around Nyeri, including over weekends, to observe what is happening in different parts of the county.

He said during one of his trips he noticed a vehicle assigned to the Deputy Governor being driven around town and later established that the person behind the wheel was Kinaniri’s driver.

“I see the deputy governor has two vehicles. He has a chase car, he has his own personal car, which is here, then I see that someone is driving that vehicle.When I check, I call him, it is his driver. That’s what I said. It wasn’t the deputy.” Kahiga said.

Kahiga said his comments had been made while discussing the county’s performance contracting system, which he said was intended to ensure that activities are measured and reported.

“What gets measured gets done. What gets measured and reported gets exponentially done,” he said.

What Kahiga Had Earlier Said About Vehicle

The clarification follows remarks of Kahiga questioning the night-time use of a county vehicle in Nyeri.

The governor said he had personally followed the vehicle between 11pm and midnight and alleged that it stopped near Wendo Coffee, where women boarded before being driven to different locations.

Kahiga was reported to have said that the vehicle was being used by a driver attached to Kinaniri, prompting questions about the Deputy Governor’s involvement.

He also said he had contacted Kinaniri about the vehicle and claimed that the Deputy Governor told him he was unaware of its use.

In his latest remarks, Kahiga sought to distinguish between Kinaniri and the person driving the vehicle, stressing that his reference was to the Deputy Governor’s driver.

The governor concluded his remarks by thanking the people of Nyeri.
