Daystar University VC Prof. Laban Ayiro in Mourning After Wife’s Death

Daystar University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro is mourning the death of his wife, Agnes Malesi Ayiro, who passed away on September 21, 2026.
In a statement on September 24, 2026, the university announced the death of Agnes and conveyed its condolences to Ayiro and his family as they mourned her loss.
“Daystar University extends its deepest condolences to our Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Laban Peter Ayiro, and his family following the passing of his beloved wife, Mrs. Agnes Malesi Ayiro,” the university stated.
Daystar University Stands with Ayiro Family
The institution said it was standing with the Ayiro family as they grieved the loss, while offering prayers for strength and comfort during the difficult period.
“We stand with the family during this difficult time and pray that God grants them strength, comfort and peace as they mourn their loss,” the university added.
Agnes Malesi Ayiro was born on May 18, 1955, and died on September 21, 2026, according to the university’s announcement.
According to reports, Agnes Malesi Ayiro died while receiving treatment at Avenue Hospital in Nairobi.

Prof. Ayiro’s Leadership at Daystar
Meanwhile, Prof. Ayiro joined Daystar University in 2019 after the institution appointed him as its fourth Vice-Chancellor. He took up the position on March 1, 2019.
Since then, the university has retained him in the leadership position, reappointing him to a five-year term in March 2024.

Before joining Daystar, he held senior positions in Kenya’s education sector, including roles at the Kenya Education Management Institute, the Ministry of Education headquarters and the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.
Earlier in his career, he also held senior academic and administrative positions at Moi University before taking up the leadership of Daystar University.
The loss comes as Prof. Ayiro continues to lead Daystar University, with the institution standing alongside him and his family during the mourning period.
