Museveni Pens Down Emotional Message to Suluhu After Husband’s Death

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has sent a heartfelt condolence message to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.

Hafidh, the husband of President Samia, died on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar, where he was receiving treatment for a heart condition.

Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi announced his death, saying he passed away at around 8 a.m.

In his message dated September 8, Museveni expressed sadness over Hafidh’s death and extended his condolences to President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania.

“It was with a lot of sadness, that I received the bad news of the death of your dear husband, Mr. Hafidh Hassan,” Museveni said.

He also extended condolences on behalf of the people of Uganda and his family.

“I extend the most heart-felt condolences from the brother People of Uganda and from my family and myself, to your Excellency, your family and the People of Tanzania,” he said.

Museveni Recalls Working With Samia

Museveni also reflected on his long-standing working relationship with Samia, noting that he had known her since she served as Vice-President of Tanzania before becoming President.

“Eversince I started knowing you as Vice-President of the United Republic of Tanzania and now as President, I have witnessed your love for your country and Africa and your dedication,” Museveni said.

He highlighted several projects and areas where Uganda and Tanzania have worked together.

These included trade, the East African Oil Pipeline, the Murongo-Kyikagate mini-hydro station, tarmac roads on the Tanzanian side, the transmission line from Masaka to Bukoba, and the Standard Gauge Railway to Isaka and eventually to Uganda and beyond.

He Recognises Hafidh’s Support

Museveni said President Samia’s dedication to her country and Africa must have received support from her husband and family.

“The dedication you show must have been supported by your dear husband and family,” he said.

The Ugandan President also recalled meeting Samia’s son, Abdul, a few times.

“It must, therefore, be a great loss to you,” Museveni added.

Museveni offered prayers for President Samia and her family as they mourn the loss of Hafidh.

“I pray that the Almighty God sees you through these dark days. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.
