Former Minister and Rongo Member of Parliament (MP) Dalmas Otieno Anyango has passed away.

According to reports, Dalmas died on the afternoon of Sunday, September 7, 2025. Dalmas was born on April 19, 1945.

He had a Bachelor of Science (Applied Economics) from Makerere University, Uganda and Postgraduate studies in Economics, Insurance, and Finance from the University of Nairobi

He was first elected as Rongo MP  in 1988, he served repeatedly until 2017.

Dalmas held several Ministerial positions under Late President Daniel Arap Moi.

He served as the Minister for Industrialisation from 1988 to 1991.

Afterwards, he appointed as the Minister for Labour & Human Resource Development in 1991.

Dalmas served as the Minister for Transport and Communications between 1991 and 1996.

He also worked under President Mwai Kibaki during his second  and last term .

He was the Minister for Public Service from 2008 and 2013, during the coalition government between Kibaki and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

He stepped down as SRC Vice Chairperson in February 2022 and vied for the Migori County gubernatorial position on a Jubilee Party ticket.

He finished third behind Ochillo Ayaco of ODM and John Pesae of DAP-K.

Deputy Chief of Staff Eliud Owalo described the MP as an exceptionally brilliant and composed leader who served Rongo residents and the country at large.

“It is with profound shock and deep sadness that I have learnt of the sudden passing of former Rongo MP and long-serving Cabinet Minister, Hon. Dalmas Otieno Anyango.,” Owalo said.

Owalo said he first knew Dalmas during at the university and they later developed a close working relationship that spanned over three decades.

The two collaborated recently on the conceptualization of the Nyanza International Investment Conference.

“Dalmas was an exceptionally brilliant and composed leader – articulate, visionary, and a shrewd businessman with an unwavering passion for socio-economic development. He was also a pioneer entrepreneur in both the insurance and banking sectors. His passing has robbed Kenya of one of the most brilliant minds of our generation. At this moment of grief, I stand in solidarity with his family, the people of Rongo, and Kenyans at large as we mourn the loss of a gallant son of our beloved nation,” he said.
