10 Suspects Arrested For Attacking Police Station

Police officers have arrested 10 suspects following the recent attack on the Emakale Police Post in Matungu Sub-County, Kakamega County.

In a statment on September 9, the National Police Service (NPS) said public documents and personal property belonging to an officer were destroyed during the attack.

NPS said police intensified their investigations which led to the arrests of the suspects.

“Today, 9th September 2025, a joint operation led by the Officer in Charge of the Station (OCS) for Matungu Police Station, in collaboration with DCI officers, resulted in the arrest of ten suspects linked to the incident,” NPS said.

The Service stated that all the suspects are in custody and will be arraigned in court.

Warning to the Public

NPS said it will not tolerate such attacks adding suspect will face the legal consequences.

“The National Police Service sternly warns that any acts of violence, destruction of police property, or interference with officers on duty will not be tolerated. Such crimes will be met with swift action, and suspects will face the full force of the law,” NPS added.

Murkomen Directive to Police Officers

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen had allowed police officers to shoot civilians who attack police stations.

“Na tumeambia polisi mtu yeyote atakaribia police station piga yeye risasi,” Murkomen said.

Murkomen cited the Sixth Schedule of the National Police Service Act, which dictates the conditions for use of firearms by a police officer, including to protect lives or property or self-defence.

Police Arrest 3 People with Chang’aa

In a separate incident, police officers have arrested three people, including two women and their male driver, who were found transporting about 100 litres of chang’aa in a saloon car in Matungu, Kakamega County.

The motor vehicle and the illicit brew were seized, and the suspects are in custody awaiting arraignment.

NPS said it remains committed to the fight against illicit brews, which endanger public health and safety.
