Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops have officially concluded their preparedness and ready for deployment to United Nation Missions. The exercise that has been done at the Kangaita training camp in Nanyuki.
The exercise that was closed by the General Officer Commanding Eastern Command (GOC EASTCOM), Major General Luka Kutto, who was acting on behalf of the Commander Kenya Army.
The primary reason for this training was aimed at equipping the troops with the requisite knowledge and skills vital for UN mandate implementation.
This was to help them thrive successfully in mission areas mandated by UN. Troops were also required to maintain high standards in their operations.
“I am here to remind you that you are not only going out there as military personnel, but you are going out there as ambassadors of the Republic of Kenya. KDF is known for its professionalism in all peace keeping and peace enforcement missions. You are expected to maintain the standards,” he said.
During the assessment, troops successfully demonstrated proficiency they have acquired, demonstrating the skills they have acquired and their preparedness for the complex task that is ahead of them.
The display directly informed Major General Kutto’s of the contingent readiness for operation in mission areas.
Major General Luka Kutto told troops to maintain the KDF’s renowned high standards in their operations. He reminded soldiers that they are not only military personnel but also ambassadors and Patriots of the Republic of Kenya a nation known for professionalism and peace keeping.
Their mainly duties will include the Protection of Civilians (PoC), facilitating the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) of illegal armed groups, and the promotion of Security Sector Reforms (SSR).
This will only be achieved through the establishment and operationalization of justice and security institutions within their designated area of responsibility.
Commander Army Special Operations Brigade Brigadier Ahmed Saman, Chief of Training at Headquarters Kenya Army Brigadier Joel Cherutich and Commander Kenya Army Corps of Signals Colonel Eliud Were, among others.
