Govt Stops Issuance of Title Deeds to Mau Mau Landowners

Share

The government has temporarily stopped the process of issuing title deeds to Mau Mau landowners at Njambini.

In a notice on September 12, the government said the process has been halted after the discovery of some illegalities.

“This is to inform the general public that the process of issuing Mau Mau Land Title Deeds that has been ongoing at Njambini has temporarily been adjoined/suspended until further notice due to the discovery of certain irregularities,” reads part of the notice.

The process was intended to provide restitution to the descendants of Mau Mau fighters and assist marginalized groups within society.

Reviewing the Process

Relevant authorities are reviewing the process to ensure it is accurate, transparent and in line with the constitutional requirements.

“Initially the intended purpose was to compensate the descendants of Mau Mau freedom fighters and vulnerable people in the society. The relevant authorities are undertaking a thorough review to ensure that the issuance process is accurate, transparent, and fully compliant with legal requirements before it can resume,” adds another part of the notice.

The government has urged the public to remain calm as it implements the corrective measures.

Communication on Resumption Date

Meanwhile, they can check the official channels for communication regarding the resumption dates.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to remain patient as corrective measures are being implemented. Updates on the resumption of the title deeds issuance exercise will be communicated through official channels in due course,” the notice reads in part.
