Govt Invites Proposals of People to be Named as National Heroes

The government of Kenya has presented an open forum for public consultation process to scrutinize and signal out individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the country’s prosperity and deserves to be honored and declared as national heroes.

According to the notice issued by the National Heroes Council, members of the public have been fully welcomed to submit their views and grievances regarding the names of people proposed for this honor.

The Council, established under the Kenya Heroes Act No. 5 of 2014, is given power to overseer and and select qualified individuals to recognize them as national heroes and heroines.

Basing to the formal notice issued by the government, names and details of all persons proposed and selected as national heroes can be tracked on the Council’s official website, www.heroes.go.ke.

Submission of Objections and Representation

The public has been advised to use the following means:

The public can channel their feedback via email to ceo@heroes.go.ke, nominations@heroes.go.ke, or info@heroes.go.ke.

Hard copy submissions can also be delivered to the Chief Executive Officer, National Heroes Council, located at Embankment Plaza, Upper Hill, Nairobi, or sent vato P.O. Box 30001-00100, Nairobi.

The council assured the public that it will handle the exercise in transparent way and uphold inclusivity in ensuring that only deserved individuals are highly accorded with recognition.

Objecting Nominees

Another alternative has been given to Kenyans who may feel that certain nominee is not eligible for this honor to also speak out and submit their objection.

The council advised that submissions must made in the form of sworn affidavits within a period of 14 days of notice’s publication and should meet the deadline set for September 30, 2025.

The Council has maintained that all the views from the public will be carefully reviewed in conjunction with Kenya Heroes Act, 2014.

According to chairman Hon. Jimmy Nuru Ondieki, recognition of national heroes is a national duty which primary purpose is to preserve Kenya’s heritage that could inspire future generations.
