Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, hosted a high-level delegation from the Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan (CHRSS) at his Jogoo House ‘A’ office.

They held substantive discussions focused on the Commission’s ongoing work in assessing the human rights landscape in South Sudan.

The visiting delegation, led by Commissioner Barney Afako and comprising the Coordinator of the Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan (CHRSS), Peter Mwesigwa, and Economic Crimes Adviser, Daniel Pearson, underscored that their engagement with the National Police Service is part of a broader consultative process ahead of the release of a forthcoming report.

The report will examine the current status, challenges, and opportunities for strengthening the protection of social and economic rights, which is a vital foundation for sustainable peace and stability in South Sudan.

Call for Regional Co-operation

The Commission emphasised the importance of collaboration with regional partners and institutions through the exchange of information and the sharing of recommendations via regular briefings. This is to ensure that stakeholders are well-informed and aligned.

IG Kanja Promises Support

For his part, IG Kanja assured them of his support in addressing any challenges. He reaffirmed the National Police Service’s commitment to advancing the shared vision of working together to strengthen human rights protections and to promote peace, not just for the two countries but across the region.
