Six Dead, Several Injured in Night Road Accident

Six people were killed and four others left injured after a lorry crushed into business premises at Kipsitet trading in Kericho County on the night of Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

Soin Sub-County Police Commander Lawrence Kisini confirmed that the incident happened at around 10pm.

Kisini said the lorry wa headed to Kisumu from Kericho when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

“One woman and three men died on the spot while two others succumbed to injuries while being rushed to the hospital,” Kisini is quoted by The Daily Nation.

Four were admitted to Kericho County Hospital with critical injuries.

The body of the deceased were taken to the facility’s funeral home.

The cause of the accident has not been established, and police have launched investigations into the matter.

NTSA Accident Statistics

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) latest report shows that 3,581 fatalities were recorded from June 2024 to March 2025,.
This is a 10 per cent increase compared to the 2023/24 financial year.

8,874 Kenyans incurred serious injuries while 5,620 sustained slight injuries from road accidents.

In road-user categories, pedestrians recorded the highest fatality at 1,342, followed by motor cyclists at 939, passengers at 604, pillion passengers at 357, drivers at 285 and pedal cyclists at 54.

A total of 1,139 people lost their lives in road crashes between January and March 2025 marking a 2.5 per cent drop compared to 1,168 fatalities over the same period in 2024.

The total number of serious injuries decreased by 481, representing a decrease of 14.6 per cent.

Counties and Gender

Nairobi County recorded the highest number of fatalities countrywide between January and March 2025, with a total of 138 deaths.

The majority of the fatalities occurred along Thika Superhighway, Mombasa Road, Outering Road and Langata Road. Counties with low fatalities were Mandera, Marsabit and Samburu which had one fatality in 2025.

In terms of gender, male fatalities contributed to 84.9 per cent of all road traffic deaths whereas female deaths contributed to 15.1 per cent.
