Kenya Met List Areas to Receive Rainfall in the Last Week of September

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has stated that Kenya is expected to experience most sunny and dry weather conditions.

However, parts of Highland East and West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin and North-western areas will experience rainfall.

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley are counties like, Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok.

Sunny intervals are expected in the mornings though occasional rains may occur over few places.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over few places during the first half of the forecast period, increasing to several places thereafter.

Night showers are likely to occur over few places.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley having counties like, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi.

Mornings are likely to be cloudy giving way to sunny intervals for the rest of the day. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy.

However, afternoon showers may occur over few places during the second half of the forecast period.

In North-western Kenya where we have Counties like Turkana and Samburu, sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

However, morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms may occur over few places during the second half of the forecast period.

North-eastern Kenya consisting counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo will experience sunny intervals during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

The South-eastern lowlands comprising of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta Counties as well as the inland parts of Tana-River County will experience sunny intervals during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

The Coast having Counties like Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale as well as the coastal parts of Tana-River County will experience sunny intervals during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

However, there is a possibility of morning showers occurring over few places.

During daytime (maximum) temperatures are expected to rise above 30°C in areas like Coast, North-eastern and North-western.

However, night-time (minimum) temperatures are likely to drop below 10°C in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Central Rift Valley and near Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Weather Review For 15th to 21st September 2025

Rainfall Review

Rainfall was recorded from September 8th to 21st 2025 across counties like Trans Nzoia, West Pokot and Coast. This comparison shows a marked increase in Coast and Highlands East of the Rift Valley.

Kitale Meteorological Station reported the highest seven day total of 76.4mm that is registering the peak of 24-hour rainfall of 59.0mm on September 20th.

Some other areas which were affected are Migori, Kisumu, Kerich, Bungoma, Mombasa and Kilifi.

Temperature review 

Comparing the 8th to 14th September 2025 and the 15th to 21st September 2025 periods, it is noted that day-time (maximum) temperatures increased throughout the country.

Night-time (minimum) temperatures increased over a number of stations such as Kitui, Laikipia and Moyale and decreased over Nyahururu, Kisumu and Kakamega among others.

Mandera Meteorological Station recorded the highest daily maximum temperature: 38.6°C on 16th September 2025 while Nyahururu Meteorological Station recorded the lowest daily minimum temperature: 5.0°C on 21st September 2025.

The same stations recorded the highest seven-day average maximum temperature and the lowest seven-day average minimum temperature: 37.4°C and 6.0°C respectively.
