CS Ogamba Makes Several Appointments in Education Ministry

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Migos Ogamba has announced a series of appointments and reappointments to key educational institutions in Kenya, reinforcing leadership structures in the country’s learning and management bodies.

The appointments were published in the latest edition of the Kenya Gazette.

New Member for KNEC

In the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), the CS appointed Zephania Koech as a member of the council for a term of four years effective September 26, 2025.

The appointment is anchored on Section 4 (f) (iii) of the KNEC Act, 2012. Koech is expected to bring fresh input into the council, which oversees examinations and assessment in the country’s education system.

Strengthening the Kenya Institute of Special Education

Several appointments and reappointments were also made to the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) council.

Kennedy Otieno, Stephen Kubai, and Josephat Kemboi were appointed under different provisions of the Education (Kenya Institute of Special Education) Order, 1986.

They will serve for a three-year term beginning September 26, 2025.

Additionally, Saida Ali Aden was reappointed for another three-year term, reaffirming her role in advancing special needs education in the country.

Changes at the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa

The Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) also saw new leadership changes.

Dr. Pius Kimani Mutisya was reappointed as chairperson of the Board of Governors for another three years.

Newly appointed members include Dr. Florah Fedha, Dr. Joseph Wambua, Allan Sitima, Abdijibar Sanay, Jenniffer Besibori, Joseph Magudah Okhaba, Betty Abiero, and Tom Ngeri.

They will serve three-year terms as members of the Board of Governors.

These appointments, will help strengthen the institution’s role in advancing science and technology education not just in Kenya but across Africa.

Appointment at Kenya Education Management Institute

At the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI), Dr. Edna Musyoki was appointed to the council for a period of three years.

The appointment, effected under Section 7 (2) (f) of the Education (Kenya Education Management Institute) Order, 2010, seeks to bolster the institute’s capacity in managing educational leadership training.

The appointments underscore the government’s continued efforts to revamp governance within the education sector.

By reinforcing councils and boards with experienced professionals, the Ministry of Education aims to improve the delivery of services and ensure effective management of institutions critical to Kenya’s academic and professional development.
