The search for a missing Tanzanian trader has ended in tragedy after his body was discovered buried in a suspect’s compound, 29 days after he disappeared.
Eliya Juma Msabaha, 27, had been missing for close to a month before police uncovered his body buried six feet underground at a home in Arusha.
Grieving Twin Recounts Painful Discovery
His twin brother, Elisha Juma Msabaha, broke down in tears after being called to the scene, where officers had already exhumed the remains.
“My mother and I had been called by the police to the station as we waited for the commander,” Elisha recounted.
“When he arrived, he told us to get in the car as we drove to the suspect’s home. We found my brother’s body had already been exhumed. He had been buried where the alleged suspect stored his potatoes. So he buried my brother behind the house, six feet deep. They dug it up, folded him, and threw him in,” he said in deep grief.
Murder Linked to Business Dispute
Authorities believe the motive behind the killing was financial.
According to Elisha, the suspect had been envious of his twin’s savings and business ventures.
“My brother had shown the alleged killer the money he had and wanted to do business with, around KSh 500,000. They had gone to discuss business ideas but they seemed to have a misunderstanding, and greed got into the alleged killer. It was all about the money,” he explained.
Community in Shock, Family Demands Justice
The grim discovery has left the family and residents of Alimara, Arusha, in shock. Eliya, described as an ambitious young trader, had been working on expanding his business before his sudden disappearance.
Police have since launched a full investigation into the incident, with the suspect already in custody as detectives piece together the events that led to the brutal killing.
For Elisha, the ordeal has left an irreplaceable void. “Losing a twin is like losing half of yourself,” he said as he mourned his brother’s death, calling for justice to be served.
