Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale held a consultative meeting with the Consortium of Faith Based Providers to discuss the progress in the rollout of Taifa Care.
FBO was represented by Christian Health Association of Kenyan & Mission for Essential Drugs, Chairperson Charles Asilutwa, Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, Chair – Health Cleophas Oseso, Christian Health Association of Kenya & Mission for Essential Drugs Board of Trustees, Dr. Robert Langat and the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims Chairperson, Al Haji Hassan Ole Naado.
Duale praised FBO for their great role and responsibilities in ensuring health sector delivers quality services to Kenyans.
Millions Enrolled to SHA
Duale sad over 26.5 million kenyans have registered to new medical scheme, SHA which is a positive feedback.
Digitization of health facilities
Duale said Digital Health Agency has digitized 3,386 of a target 6,500 facilities in the public sector.
The Ministry supported the FBOs facilities in digitization by issuing them with 100 gadgets as per their earlier request and trained their officers on the system.
Human Resources for Health
According to Duale, inside the financial year of 2025/26, the government has allocated Ksh6.1 Billion for UHC employees, Ksh1.75 Billion that has settled the doctors areas as per the Return to Work Formula (RTWF), Ksh9.9 Billion to pay interns some of who practice in the the FBO facilities and Ksh3.2 Billion to support the Community Health Promoters (CHPs).
Commodity Security
CS also commended on the improvement of the order fill rate by Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) to 70% and target it to reach 90% by December 2025 as a result of recapitalization.
Health Financing
According to Duale, SHA has paid a total of Ksh10 Billion and Ksh59.3 Billion for Primary Health Care and Social Health Insurance Funds respectively.
Duale said he has written to the National Treasury requesting for Ksh5.4 Billion to be factored in the Supplementary budget to settle the legacy NHIF debt below Ksh10 Million as per the Presidential Directive.
The Consortium of Faith Based Facilities extended a hand of appreciation to the Ministry of health for resolving their issues and that of ordinary mwananchi.
The Ministry promised to work tirelessly to conclude resolving the challenges raised.
Duale will be visiting Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS) in the next two weeks and the launch of CT scans at the Tenweek and Dream Lands Hospitals.
SHA shall allocate relationship managers per facilities and organize joint clinics to improve service delivery which includes account management, to all public, Faith Based and private hospitals.
SHA shall be required to pay all claims on a First in First Out basis adhering to the 90 day contractual period.
The Consortium of FBOs to submit a list of needy remote facilities for consideration for devices in the digitization process.
Consortium platforms will be used as tool to sensitize members on the benefits of SHA and promote payment by setting up registration desks in churches and mosques.
Chairperson will be required to hold quarterly progress report meetings.
The meeting reaffirmed that collaboration with FBOs remains pivotal in advancing UHC, given their central role in healthcare provision across the country.
