Kenya Met List Counties to Receive Heavy Rains in the Next 24 Hours

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has published the list of counties that will experience heavy rains in the next 24 hours.

In the forecast published on October 3, Kenya Met issued rainfall advisory to Kenyans living in the places that will likely to experience rains.

Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and Highlands west of Rift Valley

This region comprises of counties like Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Markwet West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok.

This counties are expected to receive rainfall that intensify to more than 20mm in 24hrs.

Rainfall will likely to spread to the Highlands East of Rift Valley region which comprises of counties like Nairobi, Laikipia, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka-Nithi on Friday 3rd October, 2025.

Kenya Met also said heavy rainfall is likely to continue up to Sunday, October 5, 2025 and likely to be accompanied by gusty winds.

It is projected to reduce in intensity from Monday October 6, 2025.

According to Kenya Met, strong southerly winds of more than 25 knots (12.9 m/s) will likely to continue in the eastern part of the country.

Kenya Met instructions to residents living in this areas

Kenya Met said there’s probability of floods due to high rainfall that can cause waters to appear in places where it has not rained heavily especially downstream.

People are urged not to drive or walk in the moving water and open fields.

There will be potential lightning strikes and people are advised not to shelter under trees or near grilled windows to avoid exposure to them.

Kenya Met said strong winds may blow off roofs, uproot trees and cause structural damage.

Updates will be provided promptly if there are any changes.
