President William Ruto’s long-time aide, Farouk Kibet, has criticised Mosop Member of Parliament (MP) Janet Sitienei for alleged neglect of development projects in her constituency, particularly in the education sector.
Speaking during a visit to Kosachei Adventist Primary School, Kibet faulted the MP for failing to prioritize the improvement of learning facilities despite receiving funding from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
“I am not happy with how this school is looking like in this century,” Kibet lamented.
“We must agree that this kind of life is not good. We are putting the future of our children at risk if we are going to allow them to learn in such environments. The school floor is earthen, and the place is so cold — we are endangering the lives of our children.”
The vocal aide expressed disappointment that schools within the President’s own home area remained in deplorable condition, saying the situation undermined equal access to education.
“We want our children to soar higher in education,” he said.
“But they are not going to compete with others from better schools and environments.”
Kosachei Adventist Primary School, which is located in Uasin Gishu County, faces severe infrastructural challenges that have made learning conditions unbearable for pupils and teachers alike.
During the rainy season, classrooms become flooded, forcing students to start their day by draining water before lessons can begin.
According to the headteacher, Mr. Methusellar Bett, the situation has persisted for years without any meaningful intervention.
“We have so many challenges, especially during the rainy season. Rainwater gets to the classrooms. Pupils have to report very early to drain the water inside their classrooms,” he explained.
The school’s administration says that despite repeated pleas to the area MP for support, no assistance has been forthcoming since the school was established in 2018.
The institution remains the only public primary school in the sub-county, yet its facilities are described as “pathetic.”
“We have never received any assistance since 2018, when the school was registered,” said the school committee chairman, Mr. Wilson Sambai.
“We have been going to offices, including that of our MP, seeking help, but to no avail. Our children are in very poor structures. This is the only school in the sub-county and is in the President’s village, yet it is muddy.”
Following his visit, Farouk Kibet announced a personal donation of KSh 5 million to help upgrade the school’s infrastructure.
His contribution is expected to go towards building better classrooms and improving the learning environment for pupils who have long endured difficult conditions.
