17-year old Kenyan Tiktoker , Kaluma Boy, whose story moved the hearts of many Kenyans on the internet, has secured a full scholarship to study a Degree in Sales and Marketing at the East African University.
This announcement was made during a Thanksgiving Service held at JCM Church in Ruiru on November 23 , where Bishop Ben Kamau, also known as Muthee Kiengei, confirmed the news to the congregation and the public.
“Kaluma Boy has been granted a full scholarship at East African University. He will undertake a course in Sales and Marketing to enhance his skills in digital marketing,” said Bishop Kiengei
Dr. Christopher Mutembei, the Vice Chancellor of East African University, formally confirmed the scholarship is fully funded and will extensively fund the student’s entire academic program.
Bishop Kiengei explained that the scholarship had been carried out by the church using formal means and not donations made online.
“The church did not receive any money on behalf of Kaluma Boy.
Our role was to connect him to opportunities that can secure his future,” he emphasized
Videos about his peculiar sense of humour and humble origins made Kaluma Boy famous on Tik Tok making him garner national attention and sympathy.
Many Kenyans on social media came out to support him, with several public figures declaring to assist him in getting education.
“This is a new beginning for him. The support from Kenyans and online creators has shown that compassion and unity can transform lives,” Bishop Kiengei added.
The young man will now start pursuing his studies in digital marketing and related areas and this marks a significant change in his life
