The Uganda National Police (UNP) has issued a clarification on the alleged abduction of two Kenyan activists, Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, in Kampala on  Tuesday, September 30.

Speaking on Monday, October 6, UNP Spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma said he has no reports that the two were in police custody after their disappearance a week ago.

Kituuma said no formal report has been filed with the UNP to clarify whether the two are missing persons or not.

He stated that UNP has no information on the status and whereabouts of the two activists.

“On the matter of the two Kenyan activists who disappeared in Uganda, I am not briefed by the police that we have them in our custody. So at the moment, I do not have any information to the effect that they are in police custody,” he said.

Additionally, he said if he had any information regarding the whereabouts of the two activist, he would have presented without hesitating.

“If I had any information on their whereabouts of the two activists, I would present it here without any reservation.”

He also tasked Bobi Wine to prove the allegations of abduction and which security agency was involved.

UNP distanced itself from this matter, circulating that they are the masterminds behind the alleged abduction of two Kenyan activists.

CS Murkomen Comments on the Abduction

Murkomen said the government of Kenya is mandated to protect every one of its citizens without favouritism.

He added that foreign affairs officials are working tirelessly to make sure the activists are safe and released.

“It is the duty of the government of Kenya to protect its citizens in any part of the world,” Murkomen said.

Bob Njagi Gen Z Protests Abduction

Last year, Njagi was abducted by a group of masked men in Nairobi during a wave of abductions believed to have been targeted at critics of the Kenyan government.

He was held incommunicado for 32 days.
