The Social Health Authority (SHA) has asked Kenyans to review their hospital bills and visit details.

SHA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Mercy Mwangangi made this announcement on October 9, 2025.

“SHA urges all members to carefully review their hospital bills and visit details each time they receive healthcare services at a SHA-contracted Healthcare facility,” Mwangangi said.

Mwangangi asked Kenyans to note the following:

  • Ensure your visit is captured in the SHA system on the actual date of visit/service.
  • You will receive a confirmation message on your SHA registered phone number once your visit has been started in the system. Kindly review the details in the message to confirm accuracy.
  • Check your hospital bill before leaving the facility to ensure all services received are correctly captured and billed to SHA as per gazetted rates.
  • Members should not incur any additional costs arising from delays or errors in visit entry or billing by the facility.
  • For procedures requiring preauthorization, confirm that approval was obtained before the procedure, except in emergencies.

“If you notice any discrepancy, immediately contact the facility or call SHA on 147 for assistance,” she added.

Mental Health Integration to SHA

Health CS Aden Duale said the government is enhancing healthcare access in Kenya by integrating mental health services into the national insurance benefits package through Taifa Care and SHA.

He explained that the move embodies the concept of “Afya Bora kwa Wakenya Wote” – quality healthcare

“This ensures that Kenyans no longer have to choose between mental health care and basic needs,” Duale said.
