The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) is the body responsible for providing financial support to students at higher institutions in the form of loans, bursaries, and scholarships.
A scholarship is an award given to students to help them pay for their education.
Students in higher learning institutions who are dissatisfied with the loans or scholarships they receive can appeal for an increase.
However, the appeal is monitored by the Comparable Testing Instrument (MTI) score; therefore, it is improved from the initial application.
They are required to provide new and satisfactory information during the appeal process that will lead to an additional score adjustment if it affects the overall assessment of need.
In a moment where the student provides information that was initially submitted, the appeal request will not go through.
“This ensures that appeals are processed fairly and transparently, reflecting only new or previously unconsidered details in the scoring,” said the HEF.
