Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has dismissed rumours surrounding the health of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, confirming that the ODM leader is recuperating in India and is expected to resume his political activities soon.

Speaking to journalists in Ugunja, Siaya County, Oburu, who is Raila’s elder brother, criticised political opponents for spreading false reports about the opposition leader’s health.

He accused certain politicians of peddling propaganda to create unnecessary panic among the Kenyan people.

“I want to take this opportunity to clarify this; there have been a lot of rumours about our party leader, Raila Odinga, that he is very sick, that he is almost dying, and that he is completely out,” Oburu stated.

Raila Recovering and Resting in India

Oburu reassured Kenyans that Raila’s condition was not as serious as alleged, describing him as “just like any other human being who was indisposed a little.”

He explained that the ODM chief was currently resting and recuperating, but not in critical condition as claimed in some quarters.

“I want to tell you that very soon you will see him back. He is in India; people should not say they do not know where he is. He is not in the US or Dubai as alleged by some,” Oburu clarified.

ODM Party Dismisses Rumours

His remarks come a week after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party officially dismissed claims that its leader was battling health complications.

The party stated that Raila had traveled abroad for an undisclosed mission and was not hospitalized.

In a statement, ODM reminded Kenyans of Raila’s openness about his health in the past.

“Raila has a strong tradition of being open and generous with the country on matters of his health. He told the country that he was undergoing a procedure when he was hospitalised as the sitting Prime Minister in June 2010,” the party noted.

Political Rivals Accused of Malice

ODM also accused political opponents of exploiting Raila’s absence to spread falsehoods meant to destabilise the opposition and weaken President William Ruto’s administration.

The statement pointed fingers at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa, claiming they were attempting to erode public confidence in Raila’s political influence.

As Raila continues his recovery, his supporters await his return to the political arena, where he is expected to resume public engagements and continue shaping national discourse.
