Autopsy Reveals What Caused Death of GSU Officer Killed Outside State House

General Service Unit (GSU) officer Constable Ramadhan Mattanka was shot dead by an arrow in an attack that occurred outside State House, Nairobi, according to an autopsy report.

The post-mortem examination stated that the arrow pierced through his 7th and 8th ribs of the left side, through the left lung, leading to serious heart damage, causing excessive internal bleeding.

The report concluded that Constable Ramadhan succumbed due to the serious hemorrhage that occurred because of the injury.

During the announcement of the postmortem, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of VOCAL Africa, Hussein Khalid, denounced the attack and demanded that justice be served to the deceased officer.

“He died due to excessive bleeding resulting from the injury. Ramadhan will be buried today in Kajiado County. As we call for justice for Ramadhan, we urge the state to ensure police are safe while on duty,” said Khalid.

Police Statement

The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that a 56-year-old man who was armed with a bow and arrows assaulted Constable Ramadhan on Monday morning.

According to NPS Director of Corporate Communication Muchiri Nyaga, the suspect went to the officers who were on guard at State House even after being ordered to surrender.

“The suspect advanced on Police Constable Ramadhan Mattanka, and shot him on the left ribs with an arrow,” said Nyagah.

The injured officer was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he died as he was receiving treatment.

His body was later taken to the hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

Nyaga also said that other GSU officers quickly subdued and arrested the assailant.

Investigations have been initiated to determine the motive of the attack.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Constable Ramadhan Mattank, who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. The service stands in solidarity with them during this difficult period,” he said.

Officer Struggles at JKIA

The incident happened only a few hours after another case, when a GSU officer was allegedly strangled and drowned near JKIA.

Police have since arrested the suspect involved in the incident.
