Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary-General Dr. Davji Bhimji Atellah has applauded former Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria for his candid intervention in the ongoing health crisis in Kiambu County.
In a statement on Tuesday, October 14, Atellah praised Kuria for displaying “the kind of honesty and courage that our nation needs right now,” noting that his remarks were both empathetic and solution-oriented.
“Moses Kuria spoke with the kind of honesty and courage that our nation needs right now. He reminded us that the ongoing crisis in Kiambu is not about winning or losing; it is about restoring dignity to both doctors and the patients they serve,” Atellah said.
Doctors in Kiambu County have been on strike for more than four months, demanding better working conditions, timely remuneration, and improved hospital facilities.
According to Atellah, the prolonged dispute stems from “systemic neglect” and a lack of commitment by county leadership to address critical issues affecting healthcare workers.
“Their struggle is not selfish; it is rooted in their oath to save lives. When a doctor’s welfare is ignored, it is the ordinary mwananchi who suffers most,” he emphasized.

During a recent address, Hon. Moses Kuria urged Governor Kimani Wamatangi to engage the striking doctors in constructive dialogue rather than confrontation.
Atellah lauded the Cabinet Secretary’s call, describing it as “timely and wise.”
“His call for Governor Kimani Wamatangi to sit down with the doctors and find a lasting solution is timely and wise,” said the KMPDU boss.
“It reminds all leaders that healthcare is not a battlefield; it is a shared responsibility,” Atellah reaffirmed.
Drawing from his experience in previous national negotiations, Atellah said KMPDU fully welcomes Kuria’s offer to mediate between the county administration and the striking health workers.
He stressed that such leadership reflects a spirit of service and humility.
“We welcome his offer to mediate between the County Government and Kiambu doctors. That is leadership in action, choosing dialogue over hostility, understanding over arrogance, and service over ego,” he stated.

Atellah concluded by thanking Kuria for standing with the truth and recognizing the central role of doctors in sustaining Kenya’s health system.
“Moses Kuria, thank you for standing with truth and for recognizing that doctors cannot be defeated; when doctors fall, the health system falls with them,” he said.
The KMPDU chief reiterated the union’s commitment to finding a lasting solution that prioritizes both healthcare workers’ welfare and the right of patients to quality medical care.
