KURA To Close Likoni Road for 17 Days

Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a temporary traffic disruption on Likoni Road between BAT Industries and Jogoo Road Junction to allow road rehabilitation works to be done.

The exercise that will start on October 15th and continue up until October 31, 2025, will result in delays and diversions as the Authority does improvement works on the major industrial corridor.

In a statement released on October 15, KURA stated that the closure is one of the continued actions to rehabilitate and renovate urban roads in the industrial area in Nairobi.

The Authority observed that the project aims at enhancing the safety of the roads, the drainage and congestion once successful.

KURA would like to notify all motorists and the general population at large that there are rehabilitation works happening in Likoni Road.

This will consequently have a short-term impact on the traffic between BAT Industries and Jogoo Road Junction.

“It is very unfortunate that the inconvenience occurs, and road users are asked to be patient during this time,” read the notice.

In a bid to reduce traffic interruptions, KURA has recommended that motorists use alternative roads like the Lunga Lunga road, outer ring road, Enterprise road, and the Lusaka road.

The Authority has also positioned traffic officers and road signs along the affected areas to lead motorists and provide safety during the construction process.

The road rehabilitation of Likoni is also in the midst of a period in which KURA and other organizations, such as the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), are working hard to upgrade the urban and inter-county road networks.

Thika Superhighway

Recently, KeNHA posted similar warnings regarding the temporary closure of parts of the Thika Superhighway at Kihunguro and the Njoro-Mau Summit (B129) Road, to enable work to be continued on its maintenance and construction.

KURA has assured citizens that it is working hard to speed up the project and get normal traffic movements as early as possible.

The Authority also encouraged road users and pedestrians to liaise with the contractors and the traffic police on the ground, observe road safety precautions, and organize their trips in advance to prevent such unnecessary delays.

This rehabilitation forms a larger strategy by the government to modernize the road infrastructure in all parts of the country and improve transport within major industrial and commercial areas.
