Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will be buried on Sunday, October 19, 2025.

Deputy President (DP) Kithure Kindiki, who chairs the burial committee, has confirmed.

Raila will be accorded a state funeral as directed by President William Ruto.

The state funeral will be conducted on Friday, October 17.

Raila Odinga Burail Plans

Kindiki said the family informed the planning committee that Raila had requested to be buried within 72 hours in his will.

He stated that the team led by Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi will depart with the body from Mumbai at 2:00 am for Nairobi.
His body is then expected to arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 8:30 am on Thursday.
Raila’s body will be received by President Ruto, family, and other government officials.
The body of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will be moved to Lee Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m., ahead of a state procession to Parliament Buildings scheduled for 12:00 noon.

Public Viewing & State Burial

A public viewing of the body will take place at Parliament on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
On Friday, a State Funeral service will be held at the Nyayo National Stadium, where top government officials, foreign dignitaries, and thousands of mourners are expected to attend.

Raila’s Final Resting Place

On Saturday, Raila’s remains will be transported in a solemn procession to Kisumu and later to his rural home in Bondo. A public viewing will be held in Kisumu before the body is moved to Bondo for an overnight vigil.
He will be laid to rest on Sunday at the family cemetery in Kango Ka Jaramogi, Nyamira, Bondo — beside the graves of his late father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, and his son, Fidel Odinga.
