The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has announced that Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has resumed it’s normal operations following the temporary closure earlier today.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has also confirmed the resumption of JKIA operations to the public.
”The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) wishes to inform the public and all aviation stakeholders that normal operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) have been fully restored following the earlier temporary suspension,” read part notice.
Security tension that flared around JKIA in the morning that led to closure of the airport temporarily has been restored.
“The security situation that prompted the precautionary closure has been resolved, and the airport has been declared safe for full resumption of flights and passenger services,” read part of KCAA notice.
Operations at JKIA were suspended earlier in the morning after the aeroplane carrying the remains of the late Raila Odinga touched down from India.
Kenyans flooded JKIA premises in an attempt to welcome Raila back and even to view his body.

In a notice dated on October 16, 2025, passengers who had ordered flight during the closure time are advised to contact airlines for updated arrangements.
“Passengers with flights scheduled during the closure are encouraged to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information and arrangements,” read part notice.
“KAA thanks all travelers, airlines, and the general public for their patience and understanding during this brief disruption. We remain committed to maintaining safe, secure, and efficient airport operations at JKIA,” they added.
KCAA has also assured public about their safety stating that security at the airport has been also restored fully.

Security personnel were overwhelmed by the public earlier in the morning which led to temporary suspension.
Additionally, KCAA appreciated the understanding and cooperation of travelers, airlines, and the general public during the brief disruption and assures continued commitment to the safety and efficiency of air transport operations.
