KeNHA Extends Closure of Major Road in Nairobi

Share

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced an extension of the temporary closure of a section of the Bomas–Kiserian (B19) Road to allow for scheduled roadworks.

The affected section stretches from Brookhouse/Galleria (Km 0+500) to the area after the Catholic University of Eastern Africa junction (Km 1+000).

In a public notice dated October 16, 2025, KeNHA stated that the extension is necessary to facilitate the construction of two box culverts along the road.

According to the notice, the works are scheduled to take place from Monday, October 20, 2025, to Monday, December 1, 2025.

Purpose of the Closure

KeNHA explained that the temporary disruption will enable engineers to complete the planned construction safely and efficiently.

“This is due to scheduled roadworks for the construction of the 2No. Box Culverts on the road section,” the notice read in part.

The authority urged motorists and road users to cooperate during this period and to adhere to the guidance provided by traffic police and marshals stationed at key diversion points.

Alternative Routes for Motorists

To ease congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow, KeNHA has provided alternative routes for motorists affected by the closure.

Drivers heading towards Kiserian or Langata can use the following routes:

  • Route 1: Langata Road – Langata South Road – Kiboko Road – Banda Lane – Magadi Road
  • Route 2: Langata Road – Langata South Road – Kiboko Road – Mukoma Road – Magadi Road (near Shell Petrol Station)

The agency also released a detailed diversion map showing the closed section and alternative connections through nearby roads.

KeNHA’s Advisory

KeNHA advised motorists to “follow the traffic diversion plan, project road signs, and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on site” to minimize inconvenience.

Acting Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli signed the notice and reassured the public of the authority’s commitment to improving Kenya’s road infrastructure.

The public is encouraged to contact KeNHA for inquiries or complaints via complaints@kenha.co.ke or the toll-free line at 0800-211-244.

The temporary closure, though expected to cause delays, is part of KeNHA’s ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and drainage systems along the busy Bomas–Kiserian corridor.
