The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has announced changes in the burial of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The national funeral committee which is co-headed by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Senator Oburu Odinga has confirmed that the body will spend the night of Thursday, October 17, at Lee Funeral Home.
According to the committee, the changes have emerged due to unavoidable circumstances that have not been revealed to the public.
In the initial plans, Raila’s body was to be taken to his Karen residence for overnight stay.
“The national funeral committee wishes to announce to the public that due to unavoidable circumstances, the body of the HE. The late Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga will not be taken to his Karen residence for overnight-stay as earlier planned,” ODM stated.
President William Ruto led Raila’s State Funeral at Nyayo Stadium.
The event was attended by both top government officials and some Africa head of states.
The government allowed for public viewing of Raila’s body after the event.
The exercise that is currently underway is well organized with tight security from security agencies.
ODM said that after public viewing the body will be taken back to Lee Funeral Home for preservation as it awaits to be transported to Kisumu tomorrow.

On Saturday October, 18, the body of Raila Odinga will be airlifted to Kisumu for public viewing in the morning.
“Instead, after public viewing that is currently going on at the Nyayo National Stadium, it will be taken back to the Lee Funeral Home for preservation in readiness for airlifting to Kisumu tomorrow (Saturday 18/10/2025) morning,” ODM added.
