President William Ruto is leading the nation in mourning former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The State Funeral will be conducted at Nyayo National Stadium.
7:00 am – Raila Odinga’s body has been moved to the Parliament buildings. Speakers, MPs, and other leaders line up to wait for the arrival of President William Ruto.
7:10: Mourners make their way to Nyayo Stadium for the State Funeral.
7:50 am – Mourners at Nyayo Stadium start singing, clapping while waving white piece of cloth in their hands.
8:15 am – President William Ruto arrives at Parliament building along with Mama Rachel Ruto.
8:16 am – National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, Kingi and CJ Koome, among other leaders, line up outside Parliament to receive President Ruto.
8:20 am – Choir starts singing at Nyayo Stadium.
8:22 am – Odinga’s family and his long-term bodyguard aligning in Parliament before Raila’s body.
8:25 am – Ruto and Wetangula bows before Raila’s body in Parliament to show their last respect.
8:26 am – Brief short sermon and prayers is conducted in Parliament before the body is transported to Nyayo Stadium.
8:28 am – Ruto starts the body viewing process followed by his family, DP Kindiki and other prominent leaders while church sings condolences songs.
8:30 am – Ruto writes down a moving tribute after body viewing.
8:55 am – Opposition Leaders arrives at Nyayo Stadium.
9:01 am – ODM leaders arriving at Nyayo Stadium.
9:20 am – Raila Odinga’s body leaves parliament buildings to Nyayo Stadium under tight security.
9:26 am – Former President Uhuru Kenyatta arriving at Nyayo Stadium.
9:28 am – Speaker Wetangula, Kingi, DP Kindiki and CJ Koome arrives at Nyayo Stadium.
9:35 am – President William Ruto arriving at Nyayo Stadium ahead of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga state funeral.
9:46 am – Body of Odinga arriving at Nyayo Stadium for state funeral program as the crowd stands up on their feet to show last respect.
10:15 am – Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) leads the mourners at Nyayo Stadium with sermon, condolences songs and prayers.
11: 30 am – Raila Odinga Jr paid tribute to his father. He stated how how his father’s legacy remains in him and has promised to step up as gentleman of the family.
“I very alive to the fact my brother Fidel is gone, I remain the gentleman of the family. I want to assure that I will take care of the family, mum, Rosemary and Winnie and the larger political family,” Raila Odinga Junior stated.
11: 36 am – Winnie Odinga paid tribute to his father, recalling the names Raila was given including Jakom, Tinga and Baba.
“When I learnt that you wish to be buried in 72 hours, I laughed. Good old dad, testing and planning for all of us even beyond the grave,” said Winnie.
I was with him in India when he took his last breath. He died in my arms, but he did not die like people have been saying on social media. Every day, he woke up and walked. Every day, he would do one round, and the next day, he would push two rounds. That morning, he pushed to five rounds. He died strong, with dignity and pride.
11:50 am – Oburu Odinga revealed that Raila Odinga died on his birthday date.
“We grew up like twins, as the difference between Raila and me was just one year and two months. Unfortunately, my brother passed away on my birthday, October 15th, 1943,” said Oburu.
12:00 pm – Ida Odinga paid tribute to his dear late husband urging mourners to be peaceful.
“I appeal, let us mourn Raila in peace. I know you are concerned, mourning and sad but let us keep peace so that peace can prevail across the country,” Ida said.
12: 30 pm – Former President Uhuru Kenyatta recounted how Raila fought for democracy and equality among Kenyans regardless of tribe, class and ethnicity.
“Historia ya Kenya ya kutetea haki za kibinadamu haiwezi andikwa bila jina la Raila Odinga kuwa nambari moja,” which translates (The history of Kenya’s fight for human rights cannot be written without the name of Raila Odinga being number one).
12: 45 pm – President William Ruto paid tribute to slain Odinga appreciating efforts of broad-based government with Raila.
He added that nobody will replace Raila Odinga.
“There was, and there can only ever be, one Raila Odinga,” Ruto said.
12: 55 pm – Ruto, Uhuru and other Africa head of states leaves Nyayo Stadium.
1: 00 pm – Public in Nyayo Stadium line up to view Raila Odinga’s body.
4:30 pm – Security forces and officials aligns to view Raila Odinga’s body at Nyayo Stadium.
4:46 pm – The body of Raila Odinga placed on gun carriage after body viewing exercise has been completed.
4:55 pm – Odinga’s remains has been loaded into the hearse ready to leave Nyayo Stadium after state funeral program.
5:00 pm – Raila Odinga’s body leaves Nyayo Stadium to Lee Funeral home for preservation.
