Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga published almost half a page of a condolence message of the local dailies to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In the advert titled “Condolence message from Nyeri Governor Dr. Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga EGH”, Kahiga sends condolences on behalf of the County Government of Nyeri and the entire Nyeri County.

Kahiga said he joins the nation in mourning the passing of Raila describing him as a true icon.

“Our hearts are profoundly heavy as we bid adieu to the doyen of Kenyan politics, a man whose life’s work undeniably shaped the course of our nation’s history,” Kahiga said.

He described Raila as a statesman par excellence, a pan Africanist, a fighter for social justice and a man whose love for his country was unwavering and palpable.

Kahiga said Raila was a man whose vision, courage, and lifelong commitment shaped the trajectory of Kenya.

“In moments when Kenya needed a voice of sobriety, his voice restored peace and tranquillity in this nation that he so loved and cherished,” he said.

Mutahi Kahiga Praises Raila’s Life and Leadership

Additionally, Kahiga said even in the moment of deep grief, they remain grateful to God for granting our former Prime Minister 80 remarkable years of life dedicated to the pursuit of justice, democracy, and human rights, often at great personal sacrifice to himself and his family.

“As the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement ODM), he guided the party for two decades with vision, courage, and resilience. We celebrate his exceptional ability to rise after every political setback, driven by his steadfast belief in never giving up,” he said.

Kahiga went ahead to recall his last interaction with Raila on August 15th 2025 in Homa Bay during the Devolution Conference, where Raila’s passionate advocacy for devolution once again affirmed his well-deserved title “The Father of Devolution”.

He stated that Raila’s words and ideals will continue to inspire generations.

“We can best honour his legacy by fully implementing devolution as entrenched in our constitution and strengthening the devolved units he so passionately championed. To his beloved spouse, Mama Ida Odinga, their children, the larger Odinga family, the ODM fraternity, and his countless supporters, we convey our heartfelt condolences. Oriti Jakom! Woud Maria! May his great soul rest in eternal,” he said.

Kahiga has sparked outrage after a viral video captured him celebrating the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
