Kahiga, who resigned as Vice Chairperson of the Council of Governors, issued an apology to Odinga’s family, stating his remarks were personal and not reflective of the Mount Kenya region.
Kahiga’s remarks has created public outrage across the country.
What ODM Said About Kahiga’s Remarks
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party condemned those remarks and further banned Rigathi Gachagua for visiting Bondo.
Gachagua had earlier planned to visit Bondo where slain Former PM Raila Odinga was buried to pay his last respect and condole with the family.
“We heard that Gachagua and his team plan to visit the home of our party leader, the late Raila Odinga. We are urging him—please, don’t step in Bondo,” Gladys Wanga stated.
What Opposition Leaders Said About Kahiga’s Remarks
United opposition leaders condemned Mutahi remarks and distancing themselves to be associated with them.
However, they said Kahiga was elected as governor with the ticket of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, that is led by Ruto therefore UDA should offer public apology after Kahiga’s reckless sentiments.
Kahiga’s Remarks That Sparked Public Outrage
According to Kahiga, the handshake between Raila and Ruto shifted development projects to Nyanza region marginalizing Mt Kenya region.
“You guys can see, you can see what had been planned, but God brought something up. Now it’s total confusion. Everybody can see that. We did not harbor hate for anyone, but God came through for us. Because the plan that had been hatched, if you look keenly, for you who do not travel, because I was in that region, all goodies were being directed there because of tomorrow’s plan, because it seemed like they did away with us but God came and brought this thing,” he stated.
