Maai Mahiu Escarpment Road Closed Completely

Maai Mahiu Escarpment road was closed completely from around noon on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

According to the Motorist Association, the road was closed after a lorry overturned near the Small Old Italian Catholic Church.

Photos shared on social media show the lorry overturned and lying across the road.

The lorry’s front section was badly damaged, while the rear remained intact with little damage.

A traffic snarl-up occurred at the scene of the accident as motorists were unable to drive past the lorry.

“Maaimahiu Escarpment near the Small Old Italian Catholic Church. The road is closed completely,” the Motorist Association said.

The accident involved two heavy vehicles that rammed into each other under unclear circumstances.

The impact left the trailer driver trapped in the wreckage and he died on the spot

Sand lorry driver was critically injured and was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Police officers arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to control traffic and to coordinate rescue efforts.

Confirming the incident, police said investigations are underway to establish the exact cause of the crash.

“We are working to determine whether the accident was caused by brake failure, speeding or driver error,”an officer at the scene stated.

The deceased was taken to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem examination.

The police have urged road users within the Mai Mahiu-Naivasha highway to be cautious particularly when using the road with heavy commercial trucks, as a measure of curbing more deaths.
