President William Ruto has mourned former State House Master of Ceremonies (MC) Sammy Lui.

Ruto described him as a dedicated public servant, a veteran broadcaster, and the respected State MC.

“From his early days as one of Kenya’s pioneer journalists at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation to his time at the Presidential Press Service, and later, as Director of State Events, his powerful voice was the familiar soundtrack to Kenyans,” Ruto said.
Ruto said Lui’s sterling career influenced many who followed in his footsteps.
He stated that his huge contribution to our media industry will not be forgotten.
“Our condolences to the family, friends and the media fraternity. Rest In Peace, Lui,” he said.

Sammy Lui Wang’ondu Death

Former KBC broadcaster and KTN news anchor Sammy Lui Wang’ondu has died.

His son, Chris Wang’ondu, confirmed that the veteran journalist passed away on the morning of Thursday, October 23.

Sammy Lui, who also served as Director of State Functions, was a prominent voice during the administrations of the late President Daniel arap Moi, former President Mwai Kibaki, and part of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.

Confirming the news, Chris described his father as a dedicated and passionate communicator who inspired many in the media industry.

“Dad was more than a journalist; he was a mentor and a friend to many. His voice shaped newsrooms and lives in equal measure,” he said.

Condolences and Burial Plans

Colleagues and fans have taken to social media to mourn his passing, remembering him as a man of integrity, professionalism, and warmth.

Many described him as a guiding voice in Kenyan journalism whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations of broadcasters.

Funeral arrangements are currently underway, with the family expected to announce the burial date and venue in the coming days.

They have also requested privacy as they mourn their beloved patriarch and celebrate the life of a man who left an enduring mark on Kenya’s media landscape
