The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has successfully secured a 20-year imprisonment sentence against a man convicted of defiling a 15-year-old girl in Kibera.
The judgment was delivered at the Kibera High Court, marking another victory in the prosecution of sexual offences involving minors.
The case was led by Prosecutor Michael Mutune, who presented a detailed and compelling argument backed by solid witness testimonies.
According to the ODPP, six witnesses took the stand to describe how the accused exploited the minor while her mother was away working casual jobs.
Their testimonies painted a clear picture of the events that led to the sexual assault, ultimately convincing the court beyond reasonable doubt.

In her ruling, Principal Magistrate Hon. Murage underscored the seriousness of the offence, noting that it involved a vulnerable minor.
She further observed the predatory nature of the crime and the emotional and psychological trauma inflicted on the young victim.
“The court cannot ignore the grave circumstances under which the offence occurred and the tender age of the victim,” Magistrate Murage stated in her judgment.
The court also pointed out that the accused had absconded mid-trial in February 2024 while out on bond, delaying the conclusion of the proceedings.
He was later re-arrested, enabling the case to resume and reach judgment.

In delivering the 20-year sentence, the court emphasized that the punishment should serve as a strong deterrent to others who may consider exploiting children.
“The sentence sends a clear message that crimes against minors will not go unpunished,” the court ruled.
The ODPP reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice for victims of sexual offences under the #HakiNaUsawa campaign, which seeks to protect the rights and dignity of vulnerable persons across Kenya.
