Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has said Embakasi East, Babu Owino’s constituency is among top beneficiaries of road upgrades.
Both Embakasi East and West leads Nairobi’s KSh2.1B roads upgrade as Sakaja expands works across 17 Sub-Counties.
Speaking during the United Winner DT Sacco’s 25th Anniversary celebration in Umoja on October 25th, 2025, Sakaja said the programme is funded by both County and National government.
According to Sakaja, the county prioritized the two sub-counties because of their dense population and high traffic demand.
Upgrade of road networks will enhance connectivity, reduce congestion, and ease movement of goods and services.
The Governor confirmed that Embakasi East and West have together received Sh867 million, accounting for nearly half of the total allocation.

These projects are valued between KSh11 million and KSh216 million each.
“These are not plans on paper they are projects residents can see taking shape, In total, Embakasi East and West have received Sh867 million out of the Sh2.1 billion set aside for city roads, and most of these projects will be completed soon.”Sakaja Said
He added that improved and upgrades roads will foster urban mobility, create jobs for local youth, and stimulate business growth in the two rapidly growing areas.
However, this projects goeas beyond Embakasi as it cuts across other 17 sub-counties in Nairobi with some dozens of projects currently at different stages of completion.
“From Kasarani to Dagoretti, from Lang’ata to Westlands every corner of Nairobi is seeing progress. We are connecting estates, schools, markets, and health facilities through better roads. This is how we bring services closer to our people,” he added.

Additionally, the transformation and upgrade goes beyond roads through the Ward Development Programme (WDP), which has seen record investment in local infrastructure.
“In 2017, only Sh200 million was spent on ward projects. When I got into office, that rose to Sh950 million in 2022–2023, Sh753 million in 2023–2024, and Sh680 million this year,” he said.
Sakaja also noted that this initiatives are only powered by Nairobi’s record own-source revenue of Sh13.8 billion, up from Sh10.8 billion in 2022.
“It’s not about money; it’s our responsibility to ensure development is done with order, safety, and integrity. This is your tax money at work,” Sakaja emphasized.
The project will be the largest infrastructure upgrade Nairobi has ever witnessed.
