Nairobi County’s Chief Officer for Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, has strongly criticized a viral video that involves a woman who is known online as “Mama Mboga”, calling for law enforcement to act swiftly.

In a statement on October 26, 2025, Mosiria said he had personally watched the clip and described it as”very disturbing,” highlighting that the woman appeared mature and, as a working mother, her dignity was compromised by the leak.

“When I first came across the story and saw how many people were criticizing her,my first thought was not judgement but concern.”He said

“I thought about her children and how they must feel seeing their mother being exposed and ridiculed publicly.”

He encouraged the citizens to assist in the identification of the culprits who took the footage, leaked it, or shared it, and also asked the victim to file an official report on the case so that the offenders could be prosecuted.

Mosiria blamed the” men who trade in and amplify such content,” calling the circulation for “cheap laughs and clicks”unacceptable and degrading the dignity of the victims, propagating misogyny, and potentially causing serious consequences to the families involved.

“I strongly condemn cyberbullying, blackmail, and the violation of people’s privacy. Let us learn to be compassionate and remember that behind every trending story is a human being with feelings, family, and dignity,” Mosiria said.

His intervention comes amid growing concern about the increasing circulation of personal, intimate, or compromising film content of ordinary citizens on social platforms, often with no permission or context.

The video in question is believed to have been leaked when the woman took her phone for repair, with claims that the technician accessed and shared private content.

“I strongly condemn cyber bullying, blackmail and the violation of people’s privacy,”he said.

“Let us learn to be compassionate and remember that behind every trending story is a human being with feelings, family and dignity.”

This appeal to arrests and prosecutions causes Mosiria to frame the incident squarely in the legal and rights-protection arena rather than framing it only as a scandal.

He emphasized that the protection of the victim and the punishment of the perpetrator is possible and should be done by the law.

Why This Matters

The case highlights the insecurities that common citizens are exposed to when personal digital materials are leaked, especially in the era of social media.

It brings to the attention how the repair technicians, phone-handlers, and third-party actors may exploit access to the devices and personal content.

It mirrors broader societal issues; how gender, privacy, stigma, and digital sharing interact in Kenyan online culture.

It is an indicator of a possible change in the institutional response; not only eliminating content, but seeking criminal accountability.

Key Takeaways for Readers

If you believe you or someone you know is a victim of non-consensual distribution of private content, it’s important to report it to the police or the relevant authority.

Individuals should be very cautious of the people who access their gadgets (to carry out repairs, among others) and the authorizations.

Online platforms and internet users share the responsibility to stop the spread of such content; not clicking, sharing, or viewing content that re-victimizes victims is part of that

Law enforcement and policymakers are being encouraged to not only see cases of digital privacy violations as moral issues but as criminal acts that can be prosecuted.
