The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a traffic alert warning motorists of flooding along the Thika–Garissa (A3) Road, affecting transport between Bangali and Madogo in Tana River County.
In a statement dated October 29, 2025, KeNHA said the floods have submerged sections of the road between the 31-kilometer and 37-kilometer marks from Bangali Centre, particularly around Tula.
The authority cautioned that water levels in the affected areas could rise further if heavy rains persist.
“The road sections which have been flooded may experience increased water levels if the rain continues,” read the statement signed by Acting Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli.
KeNHA advised all road users to exercise patience and caution, urging motorists to delay travel until conditions improve.
“All road users and motorists are, therefore, advised to exercise patience and caution so as to allow water levels to subside before proceeding with their journey,” the authority said.
The notice comes amid ongoing rains in various parts of the country, which have caused disruptions on major transport corridors, particularly in lower-lying regions of eastern Kenya.
KeNHA assured the public that its maintenance teams are already on site working to restore traffic flow and assess the structural integrity of the affected sections.
The authority stated that safety remains its top priority and that traffic will only resume once the water recedes and the road is deemed safe for passage.
“KeNHA staff are on site to help restore traffic passage through the affected road sections once it is safe to do so,” the notice added.
Motorists traveling between Nairobi and Garissa have been urged to consider alternative routes or postpone travel plans until further updates are issued.
